2022-Winter-NHU
Since the founding of Nanhua University, the University has steadfastly upheld the vision of our founder, Venerable Master Hsing-Yun – “By Society, For Society”. In recent years, in addition to lowering the four-year tuition fee to that of public universities, supporting the disadvantaged, and encouraging students to study abroad, the University has also been actively promoting Life Education, Environmental Sustainability, Intellectual Innovation, and the Three Acts of Goodness initiative. Furthermore, funds and resources have been allocated to academic departments to support the development of their respective characteristics. Nanhua University currently offers 21 interdisciplinary programs to give students the opportunity to study different disciplines. The University also encourages students to apply for the 2+2 Double Degree Program and enroll at universities that are members of the FGS University Consortium – University of the West, Nan Tien Institute and Guang Ming College. This program gives students the rare opportunity to obtain a transnational dual degree after four years, which broadens their international horizon and competitiveness.
In 2022, Nanhua University set out seven major development policies:
1. The incorporation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the curricula and the University Social Responsibility project;
2. Deepen our commitment to the 2022-2027 short- and medium-term development plan, with particular emphasis on “Complete Quality Management” and the integration of the United NationsSustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
3. Advance the systematization of life education courses;
4. Build a bilingual learning environment and improve students’ English language skills;
5. Strengthen instructors’ teaching ability, and improve students’ interdisciplinary learning;
6. Advance Chinese language education, and train Chinese language instructors;
7. Integrate AR and VR technologies, and incorporate them into teaching and administration activities. In addition, as part of the effort to integrate Buddhism with life education, and advance the vision of Venerable Master Hsing-Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan and Nanhua University, the University’s Life Education Center, Graduate Institute of Religious Studies, and the Center for the Study of Humanistic Buddhism, in partnership with the Institute of Chinese Studies at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia), co-hosted the 2021 Nanhua University Life Education Seminar.
The University’s freshman registration rate for the 2021 academic year reached 98.65% (excluding additional student quotas, the University is ranked 5th nationwide), and 96.54% for all new students, making Nanhua University the top-ranked university in category 2 of colleges and universities (7000 students or fewer). In the past year, the University has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, these include: ranked 5th in the world and 1st in Taiwan in the 2021 Top Buddhist University Worldwide ranking; received the 2021 Asian Network for Quality – Recognition for Excellence in Quality Practice Award (ARE-QP);

The University has been actively advancing environmental sustainability initiatives for which we have received recognition both nationally and internationally: For the past six consecutive years, we have been ranked in the 2021 Green University Worldwide ranking. In 2021, we were ranked 64th worldwide and 6th nationally, and ranked 1st nationally for waste management. The University also received two major awards in 2021 from the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) – the Taiwan Outstanding Sustainable University Award and the Corporate Sustainability Report – Silver Award.

Also in 2021, we received the 3rd Enterprise Environmental Protection Awards – Gold Award and the Honorary Environmental Protection Enterprise Award. We are the only university to be a recipient of the Annual Enterprise Environmental Protection Award for three consecutive years. Moreover, Nanhua University was also the only university in 2021 to receive a Certificate of Honor from the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, for achieving water conservation excellence, which is the second time we have been honored with this award since 2012. Furthermore, as a testament to the University’s dedication and exceptional accomplishments in advancing life education, the Ministry of Education has, for the past seven consecutive years (2015-2021), set up the country’s only National Life Education Center on campus.

Nanhua University has over the years received wide ranging recognition and innumerable awards as an institution for excellence in higher education. As we look forward to the future, we will stay true to our original aspirations, and continue to uphold Venerable Master Hsing Yun's education philosophy, and advance life education and sustainable development. Our goal is to attract and train talent to contribute to society and strive toward our vision that education is for life.
